Atlantic Union College is a Christian liberal arts college in the Seventh-day Adventist tradition. It is known for its strong academic curriculum, low student to teacher ratio of 11 to 1, and character building. Its mission is to develop the whole person by inspiring faith in a loving Creator God and encouraging a passion for knowledge, truth, and service to humanity.
Atlantic Union College:
Is a 4-year accredited, co-educational, liberal arts Christian institution with a number of professional and pre-professional programs, several alternative education programs, and a master’s degree program in education. It was established in 1882 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
- Is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC); is approved by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; and the Board of Higher Education of the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists to give the degrees of Master of Education, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Associate in Art, Associate in Science, and certificates in 30 or more degree areas. It holds special accreditation in Nursing, Social Work, and Music.
- Is diverse with more than 40 countries represented in the student body, faculty, and staff which provides educational potential and enrichment to each individual.
- Offers an English Language Institute (ELI) which meets the needs of non-native English-speaking students, assists them with cultural adaptation, and provides a home away from home.
- Is a curriculum provider who fulfills the Massachusetts state licensure requirements for entry level teachers, and through the Adult Degree Program (ADP) is one of a handful of colleges in the nation that offers entry level teacher licensure though a modified distance education adult degree program. The Adult Degree Program makes it possible for individuals to complete their licensure requirements as full-time students while continuing their full-time employment. This unique program combines the best of distance education and the stimulating experience of an on-campus, face-to-face interaction through a two-week intensive seminar each semester.
- Operates the Thayer Performing Arts Center (TPAC) for 250 community students of all ages. Professors from across New England partner with staff professors to teach most instruments.
- Pro Arts International, a 55-member touring choir, was formed in 1999 under the direction of Maestro Francisco de Araujo, an internationally renowned musician. Choir members from 24 countries perform music of all ethnic cultures and classical literature. Performances on the East Coast of the United States have been followed by performances across Mexico at the invitation of then president Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de Leon and the First Lady. Their music at the Santo Domingo Cathedral in Mexico City on May 26, 2000, delighted the president’s cabinet, diplomats, and leaders of many faiths. The choir performed for the Cultural Institute of Mexico in Washington, D.C. for its 10th anniversary in 2000. Pro Arts International performed in Toronto, Canada’s Sky Dome for 60,000 delegates to the world church General Conference Session of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 2000. In January, 2001, Arts 4 Peace invited them to perform a Concert for Peace in Naples, Florida with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra in an extraordinary performance. Israeli Ambassador to Jordan Hasan Abden Rahman, an honored guest for the evening, was quoted, “Music symbolizes a future for the people of the West Bank. When you see harmony of instruments and voices, you see it is possible for us to live together in peace.”
- Fiat Lux Cantorum is a newly formed premier choral group. Fiat Lux Cantorum, translated into English, means “singers of light.” This group is comprised of predominantly music majors and very talented vocalists among our student population. Its purpose is to provide a venue for cathedrals, museums, and universities that may attract music students to Atlantic Union College.
