March 7, 2007—- "AUC's accreditors have accepted the college's substantive change and new direction for the college," announced Atlantic Union College President Norman Wendth and Board of Trustees Chair Donald King on March 3, 2008. "Atlantic Union College has changed from being a full-service liberal arts college to specializing in programs that focus on social action and Christian leadership."

"Atlantic Union College is, in significant ways, a new college," says Wendth. "It is customary for every college making such a change to have provisional accreditation and that the accrediting body observes evidence that restructuring is working. NEASC will do a comprehensive review at a site visit in spring semester, 2009. He also added that all students' degrees and transfer credits are fully accredited. For information on the College's new direction, see the January and March Atlantic Union Gleaner magazines www.atlantic-union.org and the March 8, Adventist Review www.adventisreview.org

"We thank colleagues, pastors, members, the alumni association leaders, and the campus community for their prayers and support during this important time," said King. "The Day of Prayer and Special Offering on February 23, 2008 in the Atlantic Union Conference was a blessing to the College and the Church." King is also president of the Atlantic Union Conference. Both institutions are located in the northeast in South Lancaster, Massachusetts, one hour from Boston.

"We also thank the faculty, staff, and students for the enormous amount of work and commitment put into making the substantive change high quality," adds Wendth. "There is still a huge amount of work ahead of us." Restructuring normally takes years and it is being accomplished in a few months. "When the change is finished, Atlantic Union College will be even stronger academically, spiritually, and financially. We are grateful for the continuing commitment, prayers, and financial contributions from across the nation for Atlantic Union College."
