FROM THE OFFICE OF THE ATLANTIC UNION PRESIDENT
________________________________
Best Wishes to Our New President and His Family
On November 4, 2008, the citizens of the United States of America heralded a new and historical day with the election of Barack H. Obama as the first African American president of the United States, shattering a racial barrier that once seemed unbreakable.
The Atlantic Union Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church wishes to take this opportunity to acknowledge and extend best wishes to President-elect Obama and his family as they prepare to represent the citizens of this nation both here and abroad.
As a Christian community, we join all others in prayer for our new president-elect that he will be guided by God to ensure the protection of the population's fundamental human rights for all, including freedom of conscience and religious liberty.
The historical impact of the election also reminds us of something else of great magnitude. Just as the euphoric longings of millions of people seemed to pour out like a tsunami of hope for Mr. Obama’s vision of change, I believe that the change we long for, change that is lasting, prosperous, and peaceful, is change in the human heart through the power of Jesus Christ. This is change that does not disappoint . . . change that we can really believe in.
Donald G. King
President, Atlantic Union Conference
